The Southern Beaches community will lose its Sunday bus service on June 2 after the new Liberal Government chose to withdraw a subsidy.
Labor Member for Lyons, Rebecca White, criticised the decision and called on the Government to reinstate the subsidy so the bus service can continue.
“For a community the size of ours it seems extraordinary that there is no regular Sunday bus service to and from the city,” Ms White said.
“The previous Labor Government funded public transport services to help them provide additional trips and give people more opportunities to use affordable transport.”
One of the first acts of the new Liberal Government has been to withdraw the subsidy and leave people in Sorell, Dodges Ferry and Midway Point without a Sunday bus service.
Ms White has challenged the Hodgman Government to reinstate the service which many in the community rely on.
“Unfortunately the Liberal party took no public transport policy or initiatives to the last election and failed to give answers to questions asked in the Parliament about whether or not funding would be reinstated for this service,” Ms White said.
