Serious questions remain over how the State Government will cope with blows dealt to the health budget by the Abbott Government.
Shadow Health Minister Rebecca White said that while Health Minister Michael Ferguson was happy to trumpet extra money for elective surgery, he was yet to spell out how the health budget would stand up to Tony Abbott’s merciless raid on funds.
“It is time for Mr Ferguson to detail what impact these cruel Abbott cuts have had on Tasmania’s health budget and what the State Government is doing about it,” Ms White said.
“Mr Ferguson can’t just say that the answers will be in the State Budget – Tasmanians should not have to wait another two months for answers.
“Delaying the Budget makes a mockery of the Liberals’ claim that they are getting on with the job.
“Labor, under Right To Information laws, requested Treasury advice on the effect of these cuts on the state’s finances and received page after page of blacked-out, redacted reports.
“The ABC’s Fact Check has since cast doubt over the $50 billionin health cuts talked about at a national level.
“Therefore the $1.7 billion reduction to Tasmania’s share also warrants scrutiny.
“Why have huge chunks been blacked out in the advice from Treasury?
“What are the Liberals up to here?
“It’s time for Mr Ferguson to end the secrecy and come clean on the magnitude of the hit to frontline services.”
