Labor is calling for a new approach to the medicinal use of cannabis.
Shadow Attorney-General Lara Giddings said that it was time for mature discussions about the social and economic benefits of medicinal cannabis.
“It’s time for all sides of politics to get together with the experts and come up with a result that benefits patients and the state,” Ms Giddings said.
Shadow Human Services Minister Rebecca White has slammed the Liberals piecemeal funding to vital emergency food relief organisations.
“This last-gasp funding of $78,000 is inadequate and does nothing for the uncertainty facing SecondBite, Foodbank and Produce to the People,” Ms White said.
“A grant deed was issued to these organisations offering them a small amount of funding which was tied to them providing a business plan by 31 December 2014 showing how they will transition to full self-sustainability by the end of the year.
Shadow Human Services Minister Rebecca White has cautiously welcomed the Liberals’ indication that rises in rent setting and water charges for Housing Tasmania tenants are not on the agenda.
“Labor asked questions of Human Services Minister Jacquie Petrusma about rent setting and potential water charges for Housing Tasmania tenants today,” Ms White said.
Shadow Human Services Minister Rebecca White has again called on Minister Jacquie Petrusma to assure organisations working in homelessness and associated programs their funding is secure.
The Federal Government has extended the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness to June 30 2015, however the funding must be matched by a commitment of $2.8 million per annum from the Hodgman Government.
